Only 2 of the boroughs which make up New York City are on Long Island; they are Brooklyn and Queens. The other three: Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island are NOT on Long Island.

Yes, but parts of New York are located on Long Island, and that is the only criterium, so it counts.

Great idea! Would suggest adding a definition for the Rockies becuase, in my opinion, Denver should work

Denver isn't in the Rocky Mountains - in fact, it doesn't even border them, it is separated by Golden and Lakewood (as well as some other suburbs). I'm only including cities located in the mountains. The directions do specify that that is what I'm looking for.
