If South Florida lies in the Caribbean, then why isn't the USA on any Caribbean maps or quizzes?

Florida is definitely not in the Caribbean; Cuba borders the northernmost part of the Caribbean. Miami/Sarasota - why are these together; Miami is southeast mainland and Sarasota is mid west coast on the Gulf of Mexico. Miami Dade county certainly does not border another state by any stretch of the imagination.
