Yes, a lot to tourist spots globally. Maybe those visits show her political priorities in the ex-British empire - little regard for India and the sub-continent, and in Africa. Might be too much unwashed, unclean riff-raff in those places for Her Majesty to tolerate, eh what. But lots of visits to Anglo and European countries. Surprising to see Canada at no 1.

Well, the political priorities are unsurprisingly countries that have the UK monarch as head of state - which Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the Bahamas and Jamaica still do, and Barbados did until 2021. Queen Elizabeth II was never head of state of India.

To go to a country, you need to be invited first!

Clearly, she favored ex-colonies of the UK (obviously). But some of those ex-colonies probably weren't that keen on hosting her (Ireland, India...), which is why she stayed away.

Considering her age and the number of countries the royals visit on their trips, I would have expected a greater number of visits for each.

Interesting that she hasn't gone to Greece to visit Philip's relatives or to Germany to visit hers. She has gone mainly to warm weather countries except Canada (because we largely pay for her junkets). But not to Africa?

She would never be welcome in Greece after what her relatives did to the country. Where to even begin?! Firstly, her hubby's dad was one of the main people responsible for the expulsion of one million Greeks from Asia Minor when he wanted to play "British Empire" and together with the monarchist government were crushed in the greco-turkish war. He was never tried for his crimes.

The rest of the family ended up contributing to a civil war, a military junta which plagued the country for 7 years (1967-1974) and the turkish invasion of Cyprus for which the British were extremely culpable.

Not to mention, Lizzy is largely viewed as the perpetrator of Diana's murder and she had been revered in Greece.

Mostly just some poor country people getting saucy over the fact that a supposed "puppet" country is ten times better off than the shite holes they're living right now. (Speaking from personal experience)

Or some reactionary nationalists getting high on sovereignty stuffs. (again, personal experience)

I get that these are commonwealth countries, but it still seems weird that the queen has prioritized these countries over nations of high political significance like China or Germany
+12
Level 91
Feb 22, 2020
It's not weird that she has been many times to countries she officially is Queen of (or was in two cases on the list - one of which she lived in for a year). The other 4 in this quiz are, a large commonwealth country that's en-route to Oceania and her frequently-visited realms there (you're going to have to stop en-route, so why not there?), one of the closest Commonwealth countries to the UK with links to her husband, the global superpower that often needs a bit of charm for the UK to get something off them, and a close ally that is also place where her husband grew up. The non-Commonwealth two also have horse racing, and I guess while you have the Queen visiting for her hobby you might want to have her to your presidential palace for dinner as an official sign of friendship between two nations - helping boost their numbers.

Visits related to political relations are more relevant to the current PM, not so much the royal family, who would be more focused on the commonwealth.

The list actually makes perfect sense - and it makes equal sense that a list of countries visited most often by UK prime ministers would look very different.

She was head of state of eight of the countries on this list (Malta until 1974, Barbados until last year). The other countries on the list are: Britain's closest ally, the United States, and Britain's two strongest European allies, Germany (where large numbers of British troops have been stationed since 1945) and France.

Official visits by a head of state are incredibly expensive for both the host and guest countries and are typically arranged years in advance. It meant that although she travelled more than most heads of state, she was unlikely to visit most countries the six times required to make this list.

The Battenberg Hohenstaufen Saxe-Coburg and Gotha gravy train just keeps on rolling!

As a nation, we were epitomised by a greedy, entitled old white woman, who loved nothing more than killing animals for fun and secretly supporting the nazis.

These days, Schrodingers Monarch claims to have no power, merely a ceremonial role, whilst simultaneously embodying the irreplaceable core of our constitution.
