Guess which subculture/subgenre each of the following bands fall under (some bands might fall under multiple genres. Just pick the one you think they most fall under, or are most well known for being under the genre).
- To help out, I put a little * next to every band that is often considered to be under multiple of the genres, so pick the one they are most well known for being in.
Just for those who aren't as knowledgeable in the different genres, here's a quick summary of key differences between commonly confused genres:
- Industrial: Uses more electronic instruments, as well as samples of machinery in their music. [Example: Nine Inch Nails]
- Goth: More melancholic than the others, with a very slow and dark sound. [Example: Bauhaus]
- Pigfuck: Not literal pigs having intercourse, rather a combination of noise rock and post-hardcore. Often includes disturbing and purposefully disgusting lyrics. [Example: The Jesus Lizard)
- Emo: Although notably different than the others, its sad that some will use either emo or goth as an umbrella term for all alternative subcultures. Emo includes lyrics of self-hatred, rather than goth's depiction of hatred toward others. Emo is also one of the most pop driven of the other genres (by FAR), with many of them being influenced by pop-punk. [Example: Falling in Reverse]
