gibraltar is part of the uk/belongs to the uk so the uk has land on the mainland. meaning you need to remove it or add an caviat

Malaysia has land on the mainland continent of Asia, so it does not count as an island country. Countries like the United Kingdom with very small territories on the mainland (Gibraltar, etc.) are counted as island countries since their mainland territories are too small to be included.

Greenland is classified as a territory. So is Gibraltar. Peninsular Malaysia (that big chunk of Malaysia on the mainland) is not classified as a territory. This is really simple stuff.

Would Denmark not count because it consists of the world's second largest island (after Australia), a couple smaller islands, and a little peninsula on the European mainland?

Being an island country means that the country's entire land area has to be completely on islands. In the case of Denmark, it's still connected to mainland Europe, not classifying it as an island country.

This same logic can be applied to Greece and Malaysia as well.
