Primarily because there's no border between Florida and its neighbouring states, so it would be impossible to track the number of people who actually visited the state. Even if you just tracked flights, you won't have to fill out a visa form or anything so it would be extremely difficult for the government to track who's visiting and who's coming back. Either way, if it was possible to track it would be at the top of the list for sure.
@Etanna bc they document the country you arrive in if you arrive from a non-Schengen country. For the Schengen Area, some countries have you stop at border patrol areas, but they don’t require passports. Other numbers are estimates.
Don't you have to fill in your details at the hotel? My understanding is that they gather the data from these cards in bulk. Like so and so many overnight stays from country x, so and so many from country y. And maybe an estimate for daytrips?
In Schengen they track hotel arrivals yeah. It's not unique visitors, nor day trippers. International airport/border arrivals are different statistics.
Shocking that there are more visitors from the Netherlands, Spain, or Venezuela than come in from China or Japan... but I guess maybe this is because there are few direct flights to Florida from Asia, so they are counted as first visiting Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, New York, or wherever their connecting flight is.
A lot of international visitors come for the Disneyworld parks. In China they have 2 of these and Japan 1. There is one in Paris, but Europeans are drawn to Florida for the weather as well and also its not too far to fly to.
And all 886,000+ from Brazil go to Disneyworld- all at once! LOL I went one October, suppose to be a slow time, and there were hundreds of school groups from Brazil there.
I had the same experience visiting Universal Studios in Florida. The entire place was packed with Brazilian high school sports teams. That's why I guessed Brazil first for this quiz.
I'm a bit curious. The population of the Bahamas is about 410K -- 169K is over 40%. Over 40% of everyone went there in 2022? I'm wondering if there was some sort of special event or something. Or a calculation error.
I've been told that Florida is an entry point for south America into the US and Canada, not necessarily a destination. For example, many visitors to Canada from Brazil change flights in Florida. You still go through customs there, but you're not really visiting. Individuals from European countries or Canada can get to most US cities by other routes and, therefore, these numbers likelt a more accurate regarding true visitors.
As a Brazilian I can confirm: some Brazilian are obsessed with Florida for sure, mostly teens and kids or right-wing leaning adults. It is even a kind of joke for us here, because Florida always becomes a destiny for a right-wing politician fleeing from police/justice.
For our country, maybe these numbers are not that overestimated.
Was curious and checked the source -- Canadian numbers in 2025 are down 15% from 2024. Considering Canada makes up 25% of all tourists that has to hurt
It's a total number of visitors. It's not uncommon for Bahamians to fly into Miami multiple times a year to see relatives, get medical care, go to college or enjoy the greater shopping choices.
Surprised how many international visitors are going to Disneyland. From my personal experience, most Germans visiting Florida go to Miami for the beaches and Carribean cruises.
For our country, maybe these numbers are not that overestimated.
