It is necessary because of Mew and Mewtwo, and Pidgeot and Pidgeotto. You can potentially get one of those pairs, and accidentally type in one of the others without the yellow box.

don't just boo something because you aren't smart enough to do at least average. It isn't QM's fault that you don't play videogames, also pokemon is a widly known videogame/TV series/manga (Not just a videogame), so you should know some. Would you boo a quiz about the history of france? Blame jetpunk mods if you don't agree with their quiz of the day choices, but don't boo the QM and his/her quizzes...
