I know this probably isn't the quickest solution but this is the best one I've found: Italy (5), Russia (6), Romania(7), Albania(7), Germany(7), Spain (5), Bosnia (6), Austria (7), Sweden (6), Iceland (7), Ireland (7), Monaco (6) Malta (5) Total: 81

Edit: Just realized you can sub out Ireland (7) for UK (2) bringing the total down to 76

This is 5.5 years late but you can get 75 by typing iceland, malta, italy, spain, uk, germany, france, austria, finland, latvia, fyrom, bosnia, moldova.

Europe by BORDERS. I don't get why Iceland and Malta are here. Their only borders are seas... No islands in the countries of the world version of the borders quiz.

Read the instructions, it says type in a country and it fills in the countries that it borders on the map aswell. It isnt fill in a country by typing a country that borders it.

Edit: it actually also even says (either after your comment or in anticipation of likewise comments) there are two countries that do not border another country. It is all but spelled out..

When Italy is filled in, why aren't San Marino and Vatican City also filled in?

If you type a country bordering Italy (that’s not San Marino or Vatican City) Italy would be filled in, but those 2 countries wouldn’t be filled in because that would mean there is 2 borders (e.g. France borders Italy, Italy borders Vatican City.) So you would have to directly type Italy for that to also be filled in.

St Martin is an overseas collectivity of France, which is effectively a colony. St Martin is also not part of the Country of the Netherlands. So while the Kingdom of the Netherlands borders French territory, the Netherlands doesn't border France.

This was a 60 second by borders originally but QM changed the timing to 30 seconds so it looks like that I copied the quiz when in fact I had a different amount of time originally.
