Gap-fill on Schaffer and Emerson (1964)

Schaffer and Emerson conducted a longitudinal study in [G__] with [__] babies of [___]-class mothers. They visited their homes every [___] until the children were [__] months old, then once again at [__] months.

They conducted interviews with the mothers and asked them about the child's behaviour in [_] different situations, for example "what happens when you leave the room?" They wanted to measure attachment using [se__] and [st__] anxiety.

They used their results to develop the stages of attachment. Stage 1 is the [___] stage and lasts from 0-[_] months old. They recognise and bond with care givers, but their behaviour to people and objects is very [s__].

Stage 2 is [___] attachment and lasts from [_] - [_] months old. They show a preference for people over objects, but will accept cuddles from any adult. They don't usually show [se__] or [st__] anxiety.

Stage 3 is [___] attachment and lasts from [_] - [__] months. They begin to display [st__] anxiety and show [se__] anxiety from their primary caregiver (PCG). Within this period they form a [s__] attachment with the person who responds the most sensitively to their needs.

Stage 4 is [___] attachments, which begins after the first specific attachment is formed usually around [__] months. Within a month of forming their first specific attachment, [__]% had a secondary attachment. By [__] months old, [__]% had a secondary attachment.
