Almost everyone in Northern California just calls it Highway 1. I vote that you make that acceptable.

Agreed. I eventually got the right answer, but only after trying "1", "highway 1", "big sur", etc.

Agreed. I've never heard it called state route 1. I tried highway 1, highway one and big sur.

Buck1017- yes, 1 and 101 are different routes. 1 is right on the water from the Bay Area down, while 101 takes a more inland route through that corridor.

Maybe also accept "Pacific Coast" instead of having to type "Pacific Coast Highway"? I mean, "Highway" is already in the clue...

communisteggplant is correct, 1 and 101 are completely different roads. In addition, 1 is a state highway while 101 is a US highway.

There aren't thousands of other things you could put in there other than a Hollywood actor.
