Ötzi was not Austrian because he was actually found in Italian territory, a short distance from the Austrian border. His discoverers were Austrian and they brought the mummy to their nearby country. Apart from this, it is true that the Italian Tirol had not been historically Italian, and one can admit it is rather justifiable to consider him as an Austrian ancestor.
