1. Libra
Esenin was born on October 3rd, 1895. Pond was born September 22nd, 2008. Both writers' haikus are very Libra.
Both
Neither
2. Grew up with a Russian blue cat
Ida Celestia Pond has written a lot about her Russian blue cat (named after Russian poetry), Haiku. Esenin also wrote poems about his childhood Russian blue.
Both
Neither
3. Resident of one of the biggest countries of the world
Not all haiku writers are Russian! Ida Celestia Pond is Canadian (with absolutely no knowledge of Russian or ties to Russia besides her cat and love of haikus), Canada being the 2nd largest country after Russia. Esenin was definitely Russian.
Both
Neither
4. In a dynasty of poets
Ida Celestia Pond was the daughter of a lyric poet and tour guide, Patrick C. Pond, who in turn was the son of "Lost Youth" poet and Fredericton mayoral candidate Jack Pond. I will not list all of them, as all the Ponds are a very long dynasty, beginning with "Poet Laureate of the Nashwaak river" Glenn E. Pond.
Both
Neither
5. Grew up by a duckpond, duck-hunting in youth
Consequently, both of them have pond-related and duck-hunting themes in a lot of their haikus.
Both
Neither
6. Name also translates to "pond" in native language
Though Esenin wrote haikus about ponds, the last name Esenin in Russian means "loved" and has nothing to do with ponds at all! The last name Pond in English is pretty self-explanatory.
Both
Neither
7. Haikus could be described as patriotic
Esenin's haikus praised the woods and waters of Russia, Pond's haikus praise the woods and waters of Fredericton.
Both
Neither
8. Named after a city
Pond's first name (Ida is her middle name), Celestia, was given to her by her dad, a Fredericton tour guide, who was pretty fond of the city's nickname, the Celestial City. "Sergei" isn't a place.
Both
Neither
9. A self-professed hooligan, known for vandalism
Esenin was the haikuist who wrote "Confessions of a Hooligan". In addition, he toured around the world reciting haikus as well as writing them all over the hotel furniture. Ida Celestia Pond (who definitely has a passion for vandalism) partly learned what a "wholigan" was after The Who, and knew she was one. She would go on vandalism sprees through the streets of Fredericton, most memorably she wrote haikus all over her next-door neighbours' woodshed.
Both
Neither
10. D.I.L.W.I.D.
Well, if you know these haiku writers, this is pretty obvious. (Esenin was lucky with that, Pond not so much.)
Both
Neither
