Don't know who is in charge of making these statistics but any satellite image can show that Los Angeles and Riverside are both part of the same metropolitan area.

Riverside-San Bernardino are definitely their own metropolis known as Inland Empire.

Yeah. If Baltimore is considered being a part of Washington DC metropolitan arean, Riverside ought to be in LA.

I mean, this is just the US Census Bureau (actually the Office of Management and Budget). It's an official, US Government thing.

The Inland Empire, officially designated Riverside - San Bernardino - Ontario, has been its own MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) since basically forever.
