Do you have a source for Charlie Chaplin being given the title "King of Comedy"? I came up empty on Google (which suggested Jerry Lewis, perhaps because he was in a movie of the same name). Who conferred this title?

Yeah. I got that one just by chance, but I get the same results as you. I did see that Chaplin is sometimes called the “King of Silent Comedy”, which at least would make that question more guessable.
