   = 172
The sum of 72 and (-72)
When you add a negative integer and a positive integer, you essentially subtract the smaller absolute value from the larger, and the sum takes the sign of the integer with the larger absolute value. In this case, the absolute value of both integers is the same, so the sum is zero.

A piece of cardboard is 2 mm thick. Suppose it was folded in half, then folded in half again, and folded in half once more. In millimeters, how thick is the folded piece of cardboard?
Each time the cardboard is folded in half, the thickness doubles. The cardboard is folded in half three times. The first time it is folded in half it becomes 2 * (2 mm) = 4 mm. The second time it is folded, it becomes 2 * 4 mm = 8 mm. The third time, it becomes 2 * 8 mm = 16 mm.
