And if you're trying to write 270 (and 10/5) - 1 then this is very unclear
The way I have expressed the mixed number is a common way to do so. The only other way I know of to express a mixed number is to type a space between the whole number and the fraction. I chose not to type the space. Your expression with the circumflex looks like an exponent to me, not a fraction. Ten fifths is written as a fraction, not as a fractional exponent. If you can document a reasonable alternative way to express a mixed number, I will consider making a change.
And yes, a mixed number CAN have an improper fraction, although students learning fractions are cautioned against using improper fractions in mixed numbers.
