Excerpt fits just as well for extract.

In the source I’m using, the definition of “excerpt” doesn’t require extracted text to be “incorporated distinctly in another work.” For example, I could read my child an excerpt from a book without actually extracting the text I read to use in another work.

But I can definitely see that this might be confusing, so my remedy will be to change the definition such that it uses one of the verb senses of “extract.”

Thanks for this feedback.

I see what you're saying, but the definition of extract in the online dictionary I looked at also did not include use in

another work.

Thanks for changing the definition. I can't think of any other alternative answers now.

I'm really enjoying these quizzes!

What's the difference between Condition and Criterion/a in this context?

A criterion is an objective condition, test or measure used to make a judgement or other decision.

“I will only leave the house tomorrow if it is a nice day” states a subjective requirement that cannot reliably be used to make a decision.

“I will only leave the house tomorrow if the temperature is between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit and there is a less than 5% probability of precipitation” establishes objective criteria for decision making.
