It was recorded by a group called the Blossoms with the agreement that it would be credited to this group, who were touring at the time. Spector wanted to hurry production and get it in stores before it was recorded by someone else. It worked. This group was stunned when they heard their new song announcedon the radio and someone else singing a song they hadn't recorded yet. It hit #1 and they added it to their shows.Their follow up hit was "Then He Kissed Me." These women were on the young end of their teen years at the time. They are considered one of the defining groups of the girl group era.
