*First line is the artist's name. 1961. This a country song written and performed by a guy who's name still graces the popular sausage company he founded. The song was a crossover hit and went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. He won the 1962 Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording, and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Song of the Year. The song tells a story typical of American folklore, reminiscent of Paul Bunyan or John Henry.
