*First line is the group name. 1960. This group had many hits in from the 50s into the 60s. The lead singer on this song was Ben E. King. This song was supposed to be the B side. However, the legendary American Bandstand host, Dick Clark, turned the record over and realized this was a smash. Doc Pomus was one of the songwriters. The story is the song was written on his wedding day. Pomus had polio as a child and used crutches then later a wheelchair to get around. At the celebration, the groom watched his bride dancing with their guests. His new wife, Willi Burke was a Broadway actress and dancer. The song gives his perspective of telling his wife to have fun dancing, but reminds her who will be taking her home and "in whose arms you're gonna be."
