*First line is the artist name. 1960. This is a doo-wop song written by this artist and first recorded in 1960 by him with his group the Zodiacs. Commercially successful versions were later also issued by the Hollies, the Four Seasons and Jackson Browne. He wrote the song when he was 15. A line "Let's have another smoke" had to be removed before radio stations would play it. At the time, it was the shortest single (1:36) to reach #1. It sold over 8 million copies. The popularity of it was revived with the film Dirty Dancing in the 80s.
