825-826任苏州刺史。由杭州调任苏州，主持修筑山塘并同样留下以其人命名的一条堤。

白居易
832-834任苏州刺史。生于苏州，少中进士，后遭贬谪。
老年归乡苏州任刺史，有治理水灾之功。
刘禹锡
1034-1035任苏州知州。任上兴修水利、创建州学及文庙。
晚年在苏州创立家族义庄。
范仲淹
1275兼任平江知府。宝祐四年曾高中状元。
宋蒙战争中募兵勤王，后临时兼平江知府，同年兵败退守临安。宋亡后守节殉国。
