On the "other" quiz site you have to type Bosnia and Herzegovina in full on their countries of the world quiz, along with all the others, no variations allowed either. One of the reasons I haven't visited them for many years, that and the horrible lay out of the pages. JetPunk is a better website by a long way.

I've only ever seen it hyphenated : "Bosnie-Herzégovine" and in other quizzes, with just "Bosnia", so it didn't even cross my mind !

Indeed I missed it too, on this site Bosnia suffices and I only know it as Bosnia-Herzegovina. Perhaps unknowingly I have heard it mentioned with an "and" as well but they must have swallowed it then.

probably because when people hear "and" in a country name, it's usually in the Lesser Antilles.

+31

I am using the Jetpunk named for the countries, which makes it just the United Kingdom. Papua New Guinea doesnt actually have the word "and" in its name.

Papua New Guinea? I am confused.
+13
Level 81
Feb 7, 2022
There is no implied or assumed "and" in Papua New Guinea. From 1949 until 1971 Australia administered "The Administrative Union of the Territory of Papua (south, former British colony) and the Territory of New Guinea (north, former Germany colony)". In 1971 the name of the territory changed to Papua New Guinea and when it became independent in 1975 the official name became The Independent State of Papua New Guinea. This remains the name to this day.

Not so fun fact from colonial days. Papua means "frizzy-haired" in Malay and Guinea of course is a reference to skin colour. Both colonies that would eventually join to become Papua New Guinea were named for shallow physical features of their inhabitants.

Like mentioned before, you might want to make it clearer that you only want countries that have the word 'and' as a separate word in the Jetpunk name. Otherwise you open a whole new can of worms and way more countries could be on this list. (New Zealand, Andorra, Finland etc.)

Well you’ll be glad to know that Grenada DOES actually have some Grenadines of its own. The archipelago known as the Grenadines consists of around 30 islands, whose sovereignty is split between the states of St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada. St Vincent governs the northern two-thirds of the chain, while Grenada controls the southern third.

Hello! A Very nice quiz, but I would like to recommend you accept "St Thomas" and "Prince's Island" as alternative correct answers for "Sao Tomé" and "Principe", respectively (after all, you do accept the Anglicised versions of St Vincent and the Grenadines).
