This came completely out of nowhere, thank you to everyone for supporting me and to you, the quiztaker for taking the quiz! This feels insane taking my own quiz for points, I'm glad everyone liked it!
I know my musical theatre, so the only answer I could truly answer confidently was the "Good Morning, Baltimore!" question. I got the medicine and The Wire questions right too, so only got 3/10.
Wow, I have lived 20 minutes outside of Baltimore for over 20 years and had no idea that BWI wasn't the airport's official name. I was sitting here like "It's Baltimore-Washington International???? None of those words are Justices???"
If it makes you feel better, the Justice's name was only added in 2005. Before that it was indeed just Baltimore/Washington International Airport, and literally everyone still just calls it BWI.
When Virginia started promoting itself with the motto "Virginia Is For Lovers" some wit started selling t-shirts, bumper stickers and coffee mugs with the slogan "Maryland Is For Crabs." Old Line State I, Old Dominion 0.
Congrats on the feature! Native to the area, so an easy 10/10 for me.
A couple nits to pick: 1) technically, Baltimore sits on the Patapsco River, which flows into the subject bay about 5 miles to the southeast. 2) in the telegraph question, it would be more accurate to say "...first telegraph MESSAGE in history..."
I'm not a Baltimore native, but I'm married to one. She is, like you, a stickler for geographic correctness: when UMBC got nationwide attention for upsetting Virginia in the 2018 NCAA men's basketball tournament she objected that UMBC's team should not be named the Retrievers because UMBC was not located in a bayside community. And while she would concede that Baltimore is on an inlet of the Bay, her response to your suggestion that Baltimore was not on the Chesapeake Bay was "C'mon."
I believe that settles the matter--at least in my household.
Don't you know that this is an American quiz site and so everything is skewed towards America (which is also of course the greatest, freest and bestest country in the universe). To say otherwise is blasphemy!
Apologies to Ptcairn - nothing against your quiz, it's a great quiz for Baltimore, it's just quite a few of us are salty over quizmasters choice of cities for the 100 cities in 100 days list being overwhelmingly Yank.
That’s actually not even close to correct. I just counted, and of the 100 featured quizzes, only 28 are U.S. cities, which I think is actually pretty reasonable given the target audience for these quizzes.
I know nothing about musicals, but the four were all turned in popular movies. All you needed to know was the setting or a very general plot line for each movie to know which one was about Baltimore. The others were southern California, Detroit and the UK.
