The original intention of this series was to collect cities or towns with small populations but distinctive characteristics. However, I later found it challenging to clearly distinguish between urban and rural areas—such as Hum in Croatia, which has a population of 52, or many settlements in Pacific island countries. Eventually, I began including all types of settlements: cities, towns, and villages alike.
