More so the nationalists, they didn't necessarily have a side but they were against the communists. The US involvement in the Chinese Civil War came post WWII (1945-1949) during the occupation of Manchuria after it was liberated from the Japanese, during this time the US would occasionally come under attack from the communist forces. About 35 American troops were killed and double injured.
