Lord Curzon appointed this commission to investigate the condition and prospects of universities in India, its recommendations ⏭️ Indian Universities Act of 1904.. ₹ 5 lakh sanctioned PA for 5 years for improvement of higher education, Uni.

For improvements in standards of university education, admissions should be restricted.

The drought of 1865 followed by famine the following year affected Orissa, Madras, Northern Bengal and Bihar

Commission : Associated with Army Reorganization following the 1857 Revolt (recommended reducing the ratio of Indian soldiers).

In his Report namely ‘Reorganization of the Machinery of Central Government’ recommended for the grouping of ministries, improvement in the capabilities of the personnel, and also in the working of the O&M Division

1950

The GoI appointed an All India Bar Committee under the chairmanship of Justice _ to examine and report the Reorganization of the Bar and legal professions in the country.

1951

GoI appointed 3 members State Reorganization Commission to re-examine the state creation on linguistic basis. Its two other members were KM Panikkar and HN Kunzru

1953

Committee suggested the Creation of Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti, and Gram Panchayat

1957

The Commission identified disparities between tribal groups, leading to the classification of PVTGs. Initially, 52 groups were identified, increased to 75 by 2006.

1960-61

The Committee was tasked with reviewing and making recommendations on the Contempt of Courts Act, 1952, in India. Report submitted in 1963.

1961

Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU) was based on the recommendations of a committee, was formed to scrutinize the reports and accounts of public sector undertakings (PSUs) in India

1964

GoI appointed a six - member First Administrative Reforms Commission to examine center - state relations. Made 22 Recommendations ie set up of Inter State Council under Art 263

Inclusion of Medical and Engineering Sciences subjects in Civil Services Exams.

Introduction of Entrance Exams for Civil Services after Class XII to allow students to directly enter the civil services pathway.

Objective methodology for personality assessment to ensure transparency and fairness in evaluating candidates

Maintaining the traditional method of the Mains exam ( written + interview) as part of recruitment process.

 

Suggested the Creation of post of District Development Commissioner.

Committee suggested the Constitutional status for Panchayati Raj.

Committee recommended for the establishment of a State Finance Commission for the allocation of finances to the Panchayats. Also recommended for State Election Commission. Was constituted by Congress party.

Recommended to grant SEBI the statutory status

Also known as the Agricultural Review Committee examined the problems of agricultural and rural credits and recommended major systematic improvements

Suggested providing state funding in kind to political parties. It also suggested that a candidate should not be allowed to contest election from more than two constituencies.

1990

The committee was given the mandate to review only the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973 , suggested the setting up of a State Security Commission, as recommended by the NPC, to insulate the police from political pressure.

The 8 - member committee set up by all party conference , submitted its report in Jan 1999 pertained to state funding of Elections.

The Commission was set up in 2017 under Article 340 of the Constitution to examine the sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) for equitable distribution of reservation benefits.

Constituted by Min of Com & Ind to study existing SEZ Policy of India

Contingent Risk Buffer, RBI's main safety net for financial stability, was previously maintained between 5.5 - 6.5 % of its balance sheet as per the Economic Capital Framework ( ECF ) established by this committee

National Stock Exchange as the most modern stock exchange of India was established on the recommendation of this committee
