The story of BC premier Amor De Cosmos is nothing short of a rollercoaster. The man was born in Nova Scotia, became a Mormon, migrated to the US (ending up in California), adopted his name as a Latin name (although not a correct translation) which was supposed to mean "lover of the cosmos", came to BC to take part in the gold rush, wound up premier after BC joined confederation, was declared insane in his later life, suffering phobias of a variety of things (including electricity).
