Formed in 1933, the Central Party School is the institute in charge of training cadres of the Chinese Communist Party. In 1933, it was originally named the Marx School of Communism until it was renamed in 1936 to its current name. In 1966, it was abolished during the Cultural Revolution, before being restored in 1977. Since 1977, the President has usually been an influential Party member, unlike the period from 1953-1966
