Senior Generals (上将) of China in 1988

*Note: Was appointed the same rank in 1955, however under Lin Biao's tenure as Minister of Defense, military ranks were abolished. Subsequently, as part of the military reforms under Deng Xiaoping, the rank of 上将 was restored, however, it would come to mean General instead of Senior General. As this person was the only one of the original 上将 still in active service at the time, he was the only one awarded again with the same rank
