Reading is definitely right. Who the hell breathes in to words? Reading absolutely makes sense in context as in "reading between the lines".

Good quiz by the way. Nice to sing it in my had as I answer it.

Don't really know how you could hear 'breathing' anyway, especially when you have the word 'reading' right in front of you.
