The Earth's total land area is 150 million square kilometres. Therefore, they did not conquer most of the world but a little over the fifth of it. It was the largest non-contiguous empire in history, but that was not how you worded the question.

When Britain invaded the Americas it was not the United States of America, but was occupied by indigenous tribes. There were other European powers, such as Spain and France, who also had claims in what is now the United States. The United States was only created later when they defeated Britain in the War of Independence. So the wording of this question is again, a bit weird.
