But
then
it
shot
up
like
the
sky
had
cracked
open
and
was
waiting
to
swallow
it
whole.

climbed.

The
higher

felt.
Thoughts

shrinking

I
climbed.
Hand
over
hand.
Heart
pouncing
like
it
wanted
to
leap
ahead
of
me.
Then
I
saw
the
house.
Bigger
than
anything
I
had
imagined.
The
giant
snoring,
shaking
the
clouds.
The
harp
crying
when
I
touched
it.
Gold
that
burned
in
my
hands.
I
knew
I
should
run,
but
I
wanted
it
all,
all
at
once.
Then
he
woke.
Eyes
like
thunder.
Feet
shaking
the
earth.
I
ran.
I
ran
faster
than
my
own
heartbeat.
Even
now
I
hear
it.
The
cracking,
the
falling,
the
way
the
world
could
end
under
me.
People
cheer
when
I
tell
the
story.
They
call
it
bravery.
I
call
it
terror
with
a
voice
screaming
ahead
of
me.
I
wonder
if
I
saved
us
or
if
I
only
started
something
that
has
not
finished
falling
yet.
And
I
know
one
thing
for
certain:
I
am
not
the
same
boy
who
planted
that
seed.
I
will
never
be
the
same
boy
again.
