Updated with the correct subdivisions for Taiwan, additional type-ins for Vietnam (so that you don't have to type the accents), and an updated map to fix some path issues!
Good quiz, but the subdivisions and capitals of Finland are in many cases in wrong order, ex. Oulu is not in North Karelia, and Kuopio is not in North Ostrobothnia. Lappenranta is also spelled wrong "Lapeenranta", and it's not in Southern Savonia.
Hello! Wouldn’t the answers for Belgium and the Netherlands need to be the provinces and their capitals? I’ve got no idea if they’re considered a first-level subdivision, bus was just wondering about it. Great quiz, I’ll have to work on it once I’ve got a lot of free time!
Looks like I may be the first or among the first to get Tacloban (city where MacArthur vowed to return to the Philippines - kinda surprised by that one), Najran (in Saudi Arabia, not so surprised), Chonburi (lots of tourists there, a little surprised, though it's more Russian expats than English-speaking tourists so maybe not), Kyrenia (since this is on the Turkish side of Cyprus maybe if you accepted Girne (the Turkish spelling) it would be guessed more often?), and Prokuplje (Serbian craphole town where a corrupt judge stole my car, should not be known by anyone).
I can memorize the countries, their capitals, their languages, barely memorize all the first level subdivisions, and now their capitals? What sort of madness is this? xD
This is very much possible because of the way averaging works: it is skewed by users with a very high score, which especially on this quiz is very possible. As an example:
Say there are 4 scores: 1, 2, 4, and 20. The average score is 6.75 . If you were to score 5, you beat 75% of test takers despite your score being below the average.
Awesome quiz, the hour absolutely flew by. Felt like I could've done quite a bit better but my time management was awful and I kept jumping around the map which caused me to miss a lot of capitals and bigger cities that I should've got!
It's one of those quizzes where you are not supposed to get all the answers. I doubt there is a person on the planet who knows all these answers (cheating aside obviously).
Yep I know, currently this is accepted via type ins, but fixing the spelling and that of the other misspellings mentioned above would reset the quiz. Therefore I'll do this with a big overhaul to get the quiz aligned with IABs quizzes as well. I am currently streamlining this with them, but it'll take a while:)
Great quiz but Jetpunk should seriously consider increasing the maximum time for quizzes. I may be a slow typer but, I was constantly typing, got 823 with the entirety of Southeast Asia and Oceania not gotten to.
I have to say, this is one of the most discouraging quizzes visually, because normally you can see the little dots turn green and see the tables filling up, but then sometimes (especially around the Mediterranean area) there are just so many capitals stacked on top of each other that you could answer 20 and only see like 2 dots. I mean, the quiz itself is great but man the mental toll is really something
This was the single most overwhelming quiz I've ever taken. I couldn't even comprehend which one's I had and hadn't done. I still got 730 but not good enough for 5 points :(
Because of the way the First Level Subdivisions are structured. For the Netherlands the FLS are Netherlands (the European part), Curacao, Aruba and St. Maarten, so there are 4. North Macedonia, Slovenia and Uganda all don't have province-level administration, so their FLS are basically municipalities. And that means there's a lot of them
Simon, are you able to see/do you know if anyone ever completed this quiz in it's entirety? Cause I saw Mercateers video as I'm sure you've seen too, and first I was inspired to learn all subdivisions like him aswell, however, then I stumbled upon your quiz and I wanted to know if I could still be the first person to complete it. In the comment section, I saw no higher scores than that of Italindian, who had just shy of 1800, which I'm sure I can beat with a bit of practice, but finishing the whole thing would be a feat on it's own.

I don't want to update this quiz too often as it's featured now, and I imagine a lot of people are not very happy seeing this one being reset. That being said, during the next update those should be fixed. As for why there are no FLS borders: the FLS map combined with the capital dots exceeds the maximum SVG file size by a lot
When I type in "Campeche," it isn't accepted. "San Francisco de Campeche" is official, but nobody calls it that. Same for “Victoria de Durango” in Mexico. “Victoria” is the capital of the state of Tamaulipas, so when I type “Victoria,” I get credit for both. However, nobody in Durango calls it “Victoria de Durango.” Even on maps, Campeche and Durango are just labeled as such. Interestingly, when I type “Durang” I get credit for Vietnam’s “Phan Rang-Thap Cham.”
This is a great quiz and I can't imagine how much time you spent creating it. However, there are several mistakes that could be corrected during the next update:
Capital of Moravica district in Serbia is named Čačak, not Čačac.
As far as I'm considered, capital of Ilfov county in Romania is Bucharest externally, and not Buftea.
Capitals of Slovenia's municipalities of Brda, Jezersko and Kungota are Dobrovo, Zgornje Jezersko and Zgornja Kungota, respectively. Also, another settlement and municipality's name is Bistrica ob Sotli, not Bistrica ob Geotli.
I hate when this happens that I start a quiz that looks good, enjoy going through it, and then I see that again, the creator put Crimea to Russia. Is it so hard to understand that it's an occupied territory recognized internationally as a part of Ukraine? Same goes for Northern Cyprus, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Somaliland etc. They are de facto breakaway states, but for some reason, in all those cases it's easy to follow the internationally recognized borders. Not with Crimea, though. Is Kremlin paying all of you who put this nonsense in the quizes?
It is standard JetPunk policy to show Crimea as Russia, as this best reflects the status quo at the moment. I am simply following that policy for consistency across the site
Gosh I got almost 1200 of these capitals and 5 points, well, answering the First Level Subdivision by continent quizzes are a lot of help cuz' some of them are just the same. Surely, knowing some cities across different countries will push you to some extent too. Such a time consuming quiz!
I am curious: How many "interruptions" can you possibly get when entering an answer, so how often do you get another answer when just entering a different answer? I had it two times with three: Orange (Belize) and Salalah (Oman). Oran, Orang, Sala, Salal.
Due to type-ins/having a short name. Also, if you actually know around 1000 or more subdivision capitals, it's a struggle to remember and type them all in 90 minute limit.
Antarctic claims are excluded.
Taiwan is considered a separate country, and is thus not a subdivision of China.
Judea and Samaria is not considered part of Israel, but part of Palestines West Bank.
Crimea is considered part of Russia as it is on all Jetpunk maps.
The Serbian districts in the territory of Kosovo are not considered part of Serbia.
The state disputed between Sudan and South Sudan is considered part of South Sudan.
Subdivisions with the same name as their capital are blanked out.
Coordinates from World Cities and Google Maps.
Also try this quiz by proximity!
Now I have to find another hour to try and get that missing point (with no guarantee I'll get there). May not be worth it.
Some things I stumbled over, maybe you could have a look:
Nepal, Lumbini Province: Capital is Deukhuri
Sint Maarten instead of Saint Maarten
Tokelau doesn't have a capital
Bahamas: Mangrove Cay: Capital is Moxey Town, if wikipedia is correct
Tokelau does indeed not have a fixed capital but a rotating one. I have added the other two as type-ins.
I will leave Saint Maarten as is, because the Netherlands also is in English.
This beats or equals 50.4% of test takers
The average score is 329
Your high score is 308
I BEAT HALF BUT NOT THE AVERAGE?
Say there are 4 scores: 1, 2, 4, and 20. The average score is 6.75 . If you were to score 5, you beat 75% of test takers despite your score being below the average.
and Carnikava not Carkinava
Just some small suggestions (mostly alternative spellings to also accept):
Labasa, Fiji: maybe accept Lambasa as alternative spelling
Xekong, Laos: Sekong
Xaignabouli, Laos: Xayabuli & Sainyabuli
Nabatieh, Lebanon: Nabatîyé
Zawiya, Libya: Zawia
Murzuq, Libya: Murzuk & Murzug
Tombouctou, Mali: Timbuktu
Cöevity, Seychelles: Spelling wrong, should be Coëtivy
Kibuube, Uganda: Kikuube
Timbuktu was supposed to be accepted already, but I made a typo so it accepted Timbuctu instead.
I can't change Coëvity sadly, but you're right, I'll do that in the update next year.
I haven't had the time to update that one to this version though, I'll do that soon
And you should add Zielona Góra and Toruń in Poland - Lubusz and Kuyavia-Pomerania have 2 capitals each
San Francisco de Campeche is techinically right but no one in Mexico calls it San Francisco, it's just Campeche.
My current max score is 1781 and constantly improving... it's so comfortable to memorize new places with these kind of quizzes...

(Hallo iedereen die dit in translate heeft gestopt)
ERRORS:
Some of Iceland's municipalities no longer exist
Somalia's first level divisions are the 7 states
Grenada's Saint David doesn't have an official capital
Central African Republic has 3 new prefectures
Indonesia has 4 new provinces
Kazakhstan has 3 new regions
QUESTION: Why are there no subdivision borders on the map?
Capital of Moravica district in Serbia is named Čačak, not Čačac.
As far as I'm considered, capital of Ilfov county in Romania is Bucharest externally, and not Buftea.
Capitals of Slovenia's municipalities of Brda, Jezersko and Kungota are Dobrovo, Zgornje Jezersko and Zgornja Kungota, respectively. Also, another settlement and municipality's name is Bistrica ob Sotli, not Bistrica ob Geotli.
The next I wait is the flags of first level subdivisions
