Description
Reaction
Two molecules are combined to form a single molecule with the loss of a small molecule such as water.
Condensation
An acid and a base react with an equivalent quantity of each other, creating a pH neutral substance.
Neutralisation
A larger molecule forms two or more smaller molecules and water is consumed as a reactant.
Hydrolysis
A substance combines with water.
Hydration
A substance looses water.
Dehydration
The ratio of Oxygen to Hydrogen increases through loss of Hydrogen or gain of Oxygen.
Oxidation
The ratio of Hydrogen to Oxygen increases through gain of Hydrogen or loss of Oxygen.
Reduction
Another compound or element reacts with molecular Hydrogen.
Hydrogenation
The removal of Hydrogen from a compound.
Dehydrogenation
Substances in solution are mixed and an insoluble product is made.
