Mountains with Over 4000 Meters of Topographic Prominence-Pictures
There are 22 mountains worldwide with over 4000 meters of topographic prominence Given the pictures, list the mountains.
One of these is two summits near identical in height. Whichever of the two is taller should be on this list. Either answer is accepted and the photo chosen shows both peaks.
These are not the worlds 22 tallest mountains. Rather, topographic prominence is the measurement of the height above the ridgeline to a higher mountain. Unsuprisingly, mountains with high topographic prominence tend to be the tallest mountains in entire mountain ranges, but with a few exceptions, this list and the list of the tallest mountains in the world does not overlap.
Shoutout to Ras Dashen in Ethiopia, which is just 3 meters short of being the twenty-third mountain on this list.
Figured I would make this a picture quiz, as aside from a couple chinese peaks, most of these mountains are decently well known.
Of the worlds 22 tallest mountains, only 3 made it on this list, Everest, with its infinite prominence as the tallest mountain in the world, K2, the second tallest mountain and tallest in the Karakorum Range, and Nanga Parbat, the ninth tallest mountain in the world. The next tallest here is the obscure Namcha Barwa, 26th tallest in the world.
The picture for Simon Bolivar/Cristobal Colon is not great, tried to get one that got both mountains, and as a result had limited choices. They are basically identical in height, so which is the taller of the two tallest mountains in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is up for debate. One of the two is fifth most prominent on the planet, the other is theoretically a subpeak.
