What about it? Take a look at a satellite image of the area, one of the contributing factors to the division of old Sudan was the cultural/ethnic division between the Saharan north and the more lush (and in some places downright swampy) south.
JetPunk pretty much recognizes all occupations. Off the top of my head, the only "controversial" countries recognized here are Kosovo and Taiwan... and the old name for Myanmar, of course. ;-)
I stumbled on a comment thread where quizmaster explained it ages ago. IIRC it was partially to do with how wikipedia chooses to classify things, and partly to do with how territory is actually controlled, not just who claims it: eg. morocco and israel (mostly) control the lands of western sahara and palestine, so they don't count, but Kosovo and Taiwan do control their land, even if less countries recognise their sovereignty on the world stage. Don't ask me how Southern Ossetia and the other one fit in with this lol
This was really easy. Sixty seconds would make it more of a challenge for people. After I finished the quiz I saw the hint at the top of the page, i.e., "Generally countries north of the Sahel". The SAHEL? If you understand the hint, you couldn't possibly need it. I had to look it up.
It may be seen as easy by many, but did you still have to use your brains a little - if so, that's great. And for those getting 7, 8 or 9 right, or those making spelling errors, they learnt something - and that's even greater. So stop moaning & gloating, and enjoy the fact that both geographers and others got something out of it. P.S. Merry Christmas to all JetPunkers.
Eritrea should be included, the NW corner is squarely in the Sahara. Parts of Burkina Faso and Nigeria may be within the Sahara as well, as both touch the Sahara on my map.
