Same here. Sweden is assumed. It probably shouldn't be an answer.

The real question is how 47% of people forgot Sweden
+2
Level 66
May 17, 2025
Because the quiz title states "Countries Once Held." The word "once" logically and linguistically excludes Sweden itself, which has continuously possessed its own territory. "Held by" also implies external possession, and the choice of "controlled" in the directions is also ambiguous, easily leading readers to infer external lands rather than governing their own land.

"Once held by Sweden"

I'm pretty sure Sweden is the current occupant of Sweden, so it should be one of those quizzes where Sweden is already filled.

I assumed Sweden would be a given seeing as it is the country in question. Seems a bit pedantic asking us to give it as an answer.

Pedantic, really?? It is the most obvious answer. I guess it is an ego thing for people. So many blaming the quiz(master) because they missed an answer they really should have gotten.

The wording of the caveat is not the best. I'm pretty sure they "controlled" parts of Belarus and Ukraine when they marched through them towards Poltava, for example. Maybe add some limitation on how long the land must have been held?
