Iran as a term is as far as im aware new only being used after the desposal of the shah.
I was also not aware the alans were iranian i always thought they were germanic alon with the goths (although there are arguments for the goths being slavic not germanic.)
So it would be false just to call it Persian because Persians aren’t the only Iranian peoples
I’m a Kurd myself and the Kurds in iran don’t call themselves Persian
Ik u might have been confused and thought it was a mono ethnic country I wouldn’t blame u Persians are the biggest population of Iranian ethnicities and have been the most dominant historically
And the country of Iran was called Persia for a while so it makes sense why u would think that only Persians would live there or it makes sense why u wouldn’t have known about the other groups
