The UK was not at war with Iceland, but their fisherman confronted each other over fishing rights. International pressure forced the UK to backed down, which is not the same as winning a war.
Ireland did not fight a traditional war with the UK and again the UK withdrew when the consequences of continuing the war were seen as detrimental to the British people, as the Irish were viewed and that there was sufficient support in Ireland to want independence. As at 1916, support for independence was only at 18% in electoral polls for independence parties, so the "rebels" were seen to be causing conflict against the popular interest.
NB This story is taught differently in Ireland, as the newly independent Ireland was concerned about calls to rejoin the UK.
