Isn't this back-to front? A protectorate is the small nation being protected by the bigger country, so for example Tokelau is a protectorate of New Zealand, rather than the other way around. Otherwise a great quiz - it took forever to get Aland!

You should maybe add a yellow box. Otherwise, we can just name every country that has territories and get most of them.
