Doubtful cases:

Belize: possibly named for the Belize River, meaning "muddy waters" in the local Maya language

Norway: for the "Northern Way" the coastline leading to the north

Latvia: perhaps for one of several rivers with "Lat" in the name

Lithuania: possibly for the small Lietauka River

Indonesia: from India

Algeria: from Algiers, Arabic for "the islands", referring to some islands off the coast there which no longer exist.

More info:

Benin: named for the Bight of Benin, which is named for the kingdom of Benin, which was actually in Nigeria.

Cameroon: from the Portuguese "river of prawns". Once every few years, prawns swarm in the Wouri River, which was witnessed by a Portuguese explorer.

Cape Verde: for Cap Vert, the "Green Cape" on the coast of Senegal facing the Islands.

Chad: for Lake Chad, but "Chad" just means "lake" in the Kanuri language.

Tanzania: clipping of Lake Tanganyika and Zanzibar Island.

Zambia: for the Zambezi

India: for the Indus River, which actually flows mostly through Pakistan.

Lebanon: this means "white" in Semitic languages, for the snowy peaks of the mountain range.

Kosovo: for Kosovo Polje, "field of the blackbirds", site of an important battle between Ottomans and Serbs

Montenegro: Venetian name of Mount Lovćen.

Malawi: apparently, Lake Malawi is named after the country. It is known as Lake Nyasa/Niassa in Tanzania and Mozambique.
