Somehow I got stuck thinking all the answers needed to be an african country. I did get unstuck, but nearly got stuck again. Wasted too much time by then. Still managed to get all but 4 but could have done better.
Edit: all of which btw did have atleast one african answer, but had lost too much time allready. Not the first time this happened in a quiz like this, getting stuck thinking it has to meet certain extra requirements it actually doesn't.
I was kind of disappointed when Tokyo worked for "capital with the highest urban area population". It's supposed to be a "Name the country" quiz... (Yes, I'm complaining about a freebie. I prefer earning my right answers, whether than them being handed to me.)
ARGH! I thought the Libya flag was under 33% black because the middle section has the Islamic moon and star, but the area of the middle is slightly larger than other flags.
there is nothing called "Islamic moon". There is a huge misconception that the star and moon are related by any means to Islam and that totally wrong. Yes, most of flag that has moon and star are from Muslim countries but in fact it's not related to Islam. There is nothing mentioned in Islam or Islamic scriptures regarding taking the moon as a holy symbol. Saudi Arabia "Hijaz region" which is the region of the birthplace of Islam, they do not have any moon in their flag, also all countries of Arabian peninsula. North African countries developed the moon and star taken from the ottoman "Turkish" when they were colonized by them because the Ottomans developed the moon and star as they national symbol.
It doesn't have to be specifically mentioned somewhere that a symbol means Islam for it to be the symbol of Islam. I'm confident most people associate the crescent and star with Islam, and it does have some historical basis. Even though the Ottomans weren't the creators of Islam, they were for a significant time period the greatest Muslim country in the world, and Ottoman Sultans were also Caliphs. Religion is not static, and it changes all the time. The adoption of the Crescent and Star is an Ottoman influence, and is now strongly associated with Islam.
Actually according to the Guiness book of world records the oldest pyramid in the world is in Peru. And actually it was thought for a while before that discovery that the oldest pyramid in the world was the Djoser pyramid in Egypt.
Spain isn't "in Africa". When speaking of a "European country" or an "African country", or a country which is "in Europe" or "in Africa", it's pretty clear that Spain is a European country, and it is in Europe, even though it has land on another continent, just as France is "in Europe" rather than being "in South America".
So I think you'd be right if the question read "Possesses the northernmost land in Africa", but that's not quite what the question says.
