I'm not used to seeing Rotterdam on population quizzes, but I suppose a conurbation of two cities would end up here.

Their city centers are 20 km apart with a city inbetween (Delft), imo it makes sense. Lovely places as well, all three.

If that's the criteria you might as well add the entire "Randstad" with 8.2 million people. Including Amsterdam, Almere, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Leiden, The Hague, Amersfoort, Dordrecht, Hilversum and Haarlem. All different cities with centers about 20 km in between

Same here. Didn't get that one. The quiz does say urban area and not city proper. Apparently the two cities were joined in an official metropolitan area (Metropoolregio Rotterdam Den Haag) in 2014

Ahhh FFS. I thought the quiz was the European cities in the top 200 globally in terms of best quality of life, desirability, etc, rather than population. That explains some of the surprising answers, and my rubbish effort.

Istanbul - only the European part counted? Or should we divide 16 million in half as an estimate? (Would still make the list).

Greeks and Turks have more similarities than they have differences, much like the Nordic cultures. And yet, one is considered European and one is not, to the point where some people can say with a straight face that Istanbul is not even geographically European.

According to Wikipedia: "Istanbul is a transcontinental city in Eurasia, straddling the Bosporus strait (which separates Europe and Asia) between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea."

It is a city in both Europe and Asia, which JetPunk recognises. It's presence in this quiz is as valid as London's presence.

It's certainly strange for those of us who know those cities to see them considered as part of the same urban area. There's a well defined Greater Manchester conurbation, with its elected mayor, and it doesn't include Liverpool. They're very distinct cities, and 35 miles apart. Not sure what logic is used by the good people at citipopulation.de, but I'm afraid it doesn't apply well to north west England.

I know, people don't like it.

I see four options, none of them good.

1) Use a different source. Bad news, there isn't one.

2) Make an exception and remove/edit cities that I don't like or that commenters don't like. But then I have to defend every choice I make instead of deferring to a person who is an expert.

3) Just delete hundreds of quizzes

4) Deal with the whining

#4 it is. By the way, at level 86, I'd really appreciate if you bought premium. You make a lot of comments. They take time to read and address. How about paying $1.11/month to support the site?

Here's number 5: don't call it "European Cities" when it's urban areas. I see it's in the description, but most people aren't going to read the description when the title very clearly states what the quiz is about. You could argue that the description has priority, but IMO it shouldn't be contradicting the title.

Manchester/Liverpool is a very strange choice, they are two distinctly different metropolitan areas. Don't worry, I've seen the comment and I understand that you have to work with what the source gives you. This comment is aimed towards the source and not the quiz-maker.
