A lot of these are just plain wrong.

Some are nicknames or shortenings. Carter and Clinton were named James and William. People call them Jimmy and Bill, just like “Abe” Lincoln or “Teddy” Roosevelt. It doesn’t make it their first or given name.

Other presidents were known by their middle rather than first/given name:

- Stephen Grover Cleveland

- Thomas Woodrow Wilson

- John Calvin Coolidge, Jr.
