It was Nieuw Amsterdam". And there is no credible proof that Florence as ever called Florentia. "Florence" is simply the anglicized version of "Firenze" (Florence in Italian).

Beijing was never actually called Peking. It's just that the translations from Chinese to English changed and became more accurate.
