Through the 2022 Census, IBGE released in 2025, for the first time, the list of the most common first names and surnames in Brazil. Can you guess which surnames are the most frequent on the list? Source: IBGE 2025
Variant forms of each name were counted separately, as recorded in the list of household residents at the time the questionnaire was collected.
Diacritical marks were not considered during the name collection, therefore accent variations were ignored.
The data processing initially consisted of excluding words of one character in length; excluding two-character words where both characters were identical; and excluding the connectives ‘da’, ‘das’, ‘de’, ‘des’, ‘do’, ‘dos’, ‘di’, ‘dis’, ‘du’, and ‘dus’.
