It's not actually. The whole UK leans west so Newcastle is actually North not Northeast (Edinburgh is also west of Manchester)

Penzance isn't a city. It's closet city is Truro which is probably about 5 miles away, so you might want to change it.

It would make more sense to me to do the actual straight, as-the-crow-flies distances, rather than actual driving distances. For example, 388km south of Manchester would land you in the English Channel or even France, since Portsmouth is only 307km away.
