There are currently 76 officially-designated cities in the United Kingdom and 5 others in the UK's Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories. How many can you identify on the map?
Official city status in the UK can depend on a number of factors. Early diocese cities are judged to have held city status since "time immemorial". Others have been recognised as cities through the presence of a cathedral (though not all places with a cathedral are cities). Since the English reformation many places have become cities through royal charter, with the most recent gaining that status as part of Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee Civic Honours.
