I don't know the particulars of Congo-ownership in the 1900's so I just went with my source on this one

Ethiopia was known as Abyssinia until 1945.

This isn’t really the case. The locals and Europeans used different names for the country, so Ethiopia should be quite acceptable in my opinion.

Too easy -- could have added some African kingdoms or countries that were protectorates of a European power -- Rwanda, Burundi, Swaziland, Lesotho etc.

What about South Africa? Just as Canada is said to be independent when it became a dominion way back in 1867, South Africa became one in 1910. So shouldn't it be called independent?
